At NZ Clean Energy, we develop, build, manage, and operate large-scale renewable energy projects across New Zealand. Our goal is to deliver clean, sustainable energy solutions that meet today’s growing demand for green power.

HOW WE DO IT

We are committed to creating a sustainable future for New Zealand’s energy sector by driving the transition to renewable energy. Through the development and construction of utility-scale projects, we aim to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and support environmental and social wellbeing.

NZ Clean Energy acts as a developer, installer, and long-term operator of utility-scale renewable energy assets, including wind farms, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, and battery storage facilities. Our integrated approach ensures efficient project delivery and lasting impact.

Community benefits

  • Our projects produce renewable energy, providing increased energy security for both the local area and wider network.

  • Our projects maintain their agriculture usage with sites used for grazing throughout their lifetime. In addition we plant vegetation around the project for biodiversity and screening purposes.

  • Our projects create jobs for local workers, during construction each projects generates over 100 jobs, ranging from electrical work to security and groundworks.

  • We actively encourage local businesses to contact us to register their interest in providing services to our projects.

  • A number of jobs are created post construction such as maintenance, general testing, inspecting of electrics and general site maintenance and upkeep.

  • We promote visits to our sites (post construction) for local schools and community groups wishing to visit to understand more about renewable energy and what is involved.

  • Harry Simpson

    Founder and CEO
    Harry is a seasoned leader in energy infrastructure and low-carbon investment, with a track record spanning the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. He has led the development of renewable and low-carbon projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars. A graduate in Economics and International Development from the University of Bath, he also holds the CFA UK Certificate in Investment Management (IMC).

  • George Hughes

    Founder and COO
    George is an experienced COO with over 13 years managing private renewable energy and carbon businesses. He has developed and overseen hundreds of megawatts of projects—including solar, wind, waste-to-energy, batteries, and carbon initiatives—across the UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand. With an MBA focused on carbon, sustainability, and the environment from the University of Bradford, George leads teams to deliver strong financial and environmental outcomes.

  • Oliver Jordan

    National Land Development Manager

    Oliver leads site identification and landowner engagement, laying the foundation for our renewable energy projects. With a background in sales, trading, and solar installation, he combines technical know-how with strong relationship-building skills. He works across all stages of development, from resource consents to grid connections, ensuring projects move forward seamlessly.

  • Tracey Morse

    Senior Planner
    Tracey brings over 14 years of planning experience across both public and private sectors. She has led the consenting process for a wide range of developments from small-scale residential and commercial developments to 500-lot subdivisions. Tracey is known for her clear communication with stakeholders and ability to explain complex technical matters to those unfamiliar with them. Her work experience spans the length and breadth of New Zealand. She provides assistance to the team in identifying and assessing potential sites, coordinating project teams seeking resource consents for projects, stakeholder and community consultation, preparing and seeking resource consents, and providing guidance to the team in development of the projects to ensure compliance with existing resource consents.

  • Helen Sebastian

    Business Support Manager
    Helen brings over 18 years of experience in property and finance, both in New Zealand and the UK. Recognised nationally as Administrator of the year in a previous role, she excels in coordinating complex projects and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies. Her expertise spans accounting, payroll, IT, operations, and general administration—providing essential support across all aspects of the business.

  • Scott Burling

    Project Manager
    Scott is a skilled project manager with a strong engineering background and a lifelong commitment to renewable energy. He has held key roles within the Generation division of a New Zealand gentailer and worked with major international engineering consultancies. Holding a BCom/BE(Hons) from the University of Auckland, Scott ensures the precise coordination and delivery of our renewable energy projects.

  • Gary Freedman

    Consultant
    Gary brings over 20 years of experience in wind, solar, and advanced clean technologies across New Zealand and the UK. He has led and supported large-scale renewable projects through all phases, acting as a key link between developers, contractors, and stakeholders. Passionate about decarbonization and innovation, Gary also champions electric transport and local environmental initiatives, combining technical expertise with a strong commitment to sustainable communities.

  • Coco

    As our office matriarch, Coco is a seasoned professional who's a mix of Jack Russell and Poodle. When she's not taking one of her many long, well-deserved naps, you can find her patrolling the beach, making sure everything is just as it should be.

  • Urmi

    Urmi is a dignified Tibetan Spaniel and Pug cross who joined our team as a rescue at age 5. She's dedicated to her role as our head of food safety and specializes in rescuing anything that happens to fall on the floor. She's learning every day what it means to be an office dog, and she's doing a fantastic job.

  • Luna

    The youngest of our pack, Luna, is a small Huntaway cross who was rescued at age 1. She's a whirlwind of puppy energy and keeps us all on our toes. She's still learning the ropes of office life and working on earning her "good girl" badge.
